Stuck On You

I received this text message from my sister today… Sis: Mom super glued her hands together Me: What? Sis: I have no words… Wait…what? Mom glued her hands together? How can you have no words for that? So I called my mom. Yep, she had indeed been using super glue, and no she hadn’t glued her hands together…just her fingers. (This is the part were I started laughing hysterically and couldn’t stop!) At that moment she was at the Walmart buying Goof Off to help unstick her fingers. Bewildered by the whole situation I asked her WHY she was using super glue (she had to glue an ornament back together) and has this ever happened before (Yes, yesterday!) The next thing I know she's letting out a string of cusswords. (That’s the part where she was pouring the Goof Off on her hands.) It didn’t work right away so she poured more on. Not once, not twice but 4 times! I really tried to feign some sympathy for the old lady, but honestly I couldn’t stop laughing.. Plus I had a plane to catch so she was on her own. Later I got a phone call from my dad. Apparently mom’s hands turned really white and started peeling. When dad asked her if she read the directions on the Goof Off bottle she said no. (She probably forgot her glasses and couldn’t read the label) Dad Googled it and it said…DO NOT USE ON SKIN! Well too late for that….We joked that if she couldn't use her hands then she really wouldn't be much use to us any more. I mean we only keep her around because she cooks and cleans! (KIDDING!!!)

Home Alone

It's been great having both girls home for Thanksgiving, but apparently I still can't leave them home alone! Somewhere along the lines I completely failed as a mother!

Soccer Mom 101

Anna sent me this today. Ok Anna...point made, but there is no possible way this scenarios could ever happen, because I would never be in the kitchen cooking. LOL!

What Is It?

All this time I thought I was doing a pretty good job of parenting. Then...Anna sent me the picture of the "ice scraper" (see previous post). I finally had to admit to myself that I'm iffy at best! I decided to run a test of sorts and see what other things the girls might have missed out on because of my extremely poor parenting. I sent the girls the following pictures asking them to identify each and just as I suspected, they didn't have a clue. I'm sorry girls! I failed you.
1. That's honeysuckle and when the summer time comes and the air is thick with humidity you can smell it a mile away. We used to climb over the neighbors fence to get at this huge honeysuckle bush. Then we'd pull off the biggest flower we could find and pinch off the bottom so we could suck the tiniest bit of sweet nectar that came out!
2. Lightning bugs (Fireflys) possibly one of the best things about summer. We'd chase them around the yard and then catch them in a jar where we'd watch them light up before we'd let them go again.
3. That's a rake! There was nothing like raking leaves into a big pile and then jumping right into the middle of them.
4. Panty Hose- Those are evil...Trust me I did you a favor by not making you wear those!
5. Living in the desert you never got the thrill of waking up in the morning to hear the tv reporter say that your district was closed for a snow day! On the other hand you didn't have to deal with below freezing temps, putting on 7 layers of clothes just to go outside, shoveling the driveway so you could get the car out or having to scrape the ice off your car window.

Dance Off with Swoop

I'm really glad that when Kayla went to college she stayed true to who she is....weird and awkward! The other night was the EWU Eagle Madness basketball kickoff and Kayla was in the dance off. She killed it! Watch out Swoop! You have some serious competition with that one! On a side note....it really is a small world because Swoop, the mascot, is our pastor's cousin! How crazy is that?!

The Sky is Falling

Chicken little called me the other day to tell me the sky was falling. Really it was just acorns falling off the trees. Poor kid has never experienced fall before or acorns falling out of trees or jumping in a big pile of leaves. Apparently it's effected her more than I thought and she found a very creative way to let me know how she feels.

Snow-NO

The first snowstorm of the season hit Flagstaff yesterday. It's also the first time that Anna has ever driven in snow and ice. I told her that she needed to stop by the store and get an ice scraper. An hour later I get this picture. Hey mom is this what I need? Ok...I get that the child grew up in the desert, but seriously I couldn't stop laughing!

Dude, That's Not Your Car

I did it again! I tried to get in the wrong car! How does that happen to one person so much? Sometimes I worry about myself... NO joke! The other day I went out to my car and the key wouldn't work. I was starting to get really frustrated when a coworker yells out his window, "Stacy that's not your car!" SERIOUSLY! I AM A MORON! At least this time the car was the same make model AND color. Awhile back I got into a car that looked nothing like mine. It was white and my car is red! I actually sat down in the drivers seat and tried to start someone else's car! Kayla started hissing at me, "Mom, Mom....!" Thankfully the owner of the car didn't appear at the moment and I quickly took refuge in my real car! You know the red soul that was parked 2 spaces down.... I need some serious help!

Golden Birthday

September 18, 2015 was Kayla's Golden Birthday! It was the day she turned 18 on the 18th! When she started college this year she thought it was cool that she was only 17! There were some limitations though, like she couldn't sign any of her own paperwork or even get an advil from the trainer without my permission. When she turned 18 she said the first thing she was going to do was go to Nora her trainer and tell her to give her one of every kind of pill she had.

I wasn't missing the big 18 so I went to EWU and spent the weekend with Kayla! We had a blast! I really miss that kid! I can't believe she is so grown up! HAPPY GOLDEN BIRTHDAY KAYLA NICOLE!

Sister Showdown

The girls faced off for the first time as college rivals last weekend. The old people and I made the trip up to Cheney to witness this historic event!  We were on pins and needles for a few days wondering if Anna would make the travel team. Thankfully she did and we ended up being on the same plane. It was fun to see what it's like for the girls when they travel.

Old Man River hadn't been to Spokane yet so he really enjoyed getting to see Kayla's school and meet her friends. Because of NCAA rules and all that jazz Anna wasn't able to come with us to see Kayla. But...Thursday night we were all able to go over to Anna's hotel to hang out so the girls got to see each other for the first time in 3 months!  I LOVE having my girls together.

The game was on Friday....and let's just say....it was really weird (for lack of a better word)! Kayla's team won 4-2, and by the end of the game both girls were crying. Anna because her coach was mad at the team for losing and wouldn't talk to them and Kayla because Anna made her team mad and they were talking crap about her to Kayla.....OH SO MUCH DRAMA!!!

I'm so glad that is a once a year event and hopefully next year it will be much better! Fingers crossed! At least next year Kayla will get to play and we will see the Goebel girls really go head to head as one is a defender and one is a forward!

Here are some pics of the trip!

Empty Nest

I honestly thought that when both girls were away at college I'd have so much extra time on my hands.  How wrong I was! I feel like I am busier now than ever. It could be the fact that I have 3 jobs and work all the time so that I can pay for the 2 girls in college. HA!

I'm very thankful that they both got athletic & academic scholarships! That takes a big load off but they still need money to live on. They both chose to go to schools that have 4 seasons so pretty much needed a whole new wardrobe. Then there are the little things like contact solution and shampoo etc,....I think I got off cheaper when they lived at home.

Oh yes....then I made the mistake of waiting too long to get Kayla's plane ticket home for Thanksgiving! Won't do that again! Good thing I've got a bunch of webinars next week!

Oh the life of an empty nester! So far....it isn't what I expected it to be......

False Advertising

Follow up to my last post. Funny now, but maybe not so funny to Anna at the time. I used a pic that NAU Athletics posted featuring Anna advertising the games in Milwaukee that weekend. The next day Anna found out she didn't make the travel squad. She was upset for a bit, but understands that's part of playing Division 1 college soccer. Well if that wasn't a kick in the pants the next day this was posted.
It's GAME DAY FOR @agoebel13 and the @nauwomen's soccer team!

Well it wasn't game day for Anna because she wasn't there, but so proud of that girl! She took it like a champ and cheered on her girls that night! NAU Strong!

*In a side note they lost that game to Marquette, but rallied on Sunday with a win over Loyola.

Go Jacks!

That's Anna!  #13 and a forward at NAU! Good luck in Wisconsin Jacks!

Getting Old Sucks!

They say that when you get old the first things to go are the eyes. That explains the stash of dollar store glasses I have everywhere. The next thing has to be the mind. That's the only explanation for why I found myself in the men's restroom at Walmart yesterday. I didn't even realize I was in the men's restroom until I went to wash my hands in the sink that was located right next to the urinals. Crap! Thankfully they were not occupied at the time. I tried to escape without being detected, but I wasn't so lucky. "Daddy why is that lady in the men's room?" I just put my head down and kept walking!

Christmas List

It probably seems like a weird thing for a teenager to put on their Christmas list. But for a girl who asks for a metal detector for her 16th birthday and a charcoal gray mini van for graduation, a Dashboard Jesus isn't really so random. And thanks to Aunt Amy and Amazon Prime....that's pretty much how this whole thing got started.

There are three of us in this cute little family. First there is me, Stacy, aka....Mom who is discovering a new kind of life as a 40ish something single, empty nester.

We are a house divided as both girls play college soccer at rival schools. Anna is #13 at Northern Arizona University (Go Jacks!), who loves to play the guitar and knit sweaters for her turtle, Fat Shelly.

Kayla, plays at Eastern Washington University (Go Eags!), has a healing leg, thinks she's a comedian and is the most random (but fun) person you will ever meet.

This blog is my way of journaling the girls lives because basically I suck at scrapbooking.
Our previous blog thegoebelgirls.blogspot.com, followed A & K as they grew up (way too fast I might add), but we've had a lot of changes in our lives and it was time for a new blog!

Well here's to a new chapter in our lives, a new start for all of us and many new and exciting adventures along the way!!!

*On a side note I do need to point out that the Dashboard Jesus in the picture and on the dashboard of my little red Soul is really DJ #2. Kayla took the original with her to college.
